North Carolina Governor

The governor of North Carolina is the head of the executive branch and the highest state office in North Carolina. The governor is elected every four years by a plurality of voters and can serve up to two consecutive terms. The governor has the authority to appoint state officials, veto bills passed by the legislature, call special sessions, grant pardons, and command the state militia. The governor also proposes the state budget and delivers the state of the state address. The governor works with the lieutenant governor, who is elected separately and presides over the state senate, and the other members of the Council of State, who are elected statewide and oversee various executive departments.
